In brief

Welcome to the Loire à Vélo!

The Loire Valley is one of the best destinations in Europe for cycling holidays. The Loire à Vélo is the cycle route that links Nevers to the Atlantic Ocean and attracts almost a million cyclists annually. Its 900 km are part of the Eurovelo 6, the cycle route that crosses Europe from east to west.

The valley is beautiful, so it is not surprising that it was chosen as the residence of the kings of France. Amongst castles, forests and vineyards, easy cycle paths alternate with river towpaths and quiet roads, making for a varied and stimulating ride.

To know

Itineraries through history, nature, and flavors

A wonderful food and wine experience is paired with unmissable cultural visits. The castles are all within biking distance, as are the nearby towns, treasure troves of art and culture. As the miles go by, the landscape changes: toward the end of the route, beaches and cliffs take the place of architecture and vineyards, while the river opens into its estuary, plunging into the Atlantic. You can toast at the end of each ride with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc or Cabernet Franc!

Tours

Between Orléans and Saumur (3 tours)

This is the royal route, that of the most famous castles and gardens: Chenonceau, Chambord, Cheverny, Villandry. Pedaling along the Loire, we pass through many beautiful towns, through which great figures in history have passed: from Joan of Arc, the Maid of Orleans, to the great Leonardo Da Vinci, who chose Amboise as his final resting place. Not to be missed are Tours, the former capital of the kingdom of France, and the charming city of Blois.

FAQ

Our promise to those who travel with us is this: cycle easy, travel light. These words capture the essence of what we do. Choose your favourite cycling holiday and leave the rest to us: itinerary, handpicked accommodation, luggage transfer between stops and multilingual dedicated assistance.

A full 840 km, making it one of the longest cycle paths ever, just like the river it follows.

From April to September, this route is at its most stunning. Kilometre after kilometre, it welcomes cyclists with a mild climate, even during summer, along with the delightful scents of flowers and wheat fields.

Chenonceau Castle is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful, also known as the “castle of the three ladies” in homage to its owners: Katherine Briconnet, Diane de Poitiers, and Catherine de Medici. Another unmissable stop is Amboise Castle, with its relics of Leonardo Da Vinci. Finally, don’t miss the largest of them all, the fairytale Château de Chambord, and the smallest, the charming Château de Troussay. Check out our guide on the Loire Valley by bike

Yes, absolutely! We propose a 7-day itinerary with daily stops that are easy for young children to manage. It’s a magical journey through gardens, castles and labyrinths that will captivate even the most reluctant of children!

Every morning you leave your luggage at the reception desk and we take care of transporting it to your next accommodation. We will provide you with luggage labels and drop-off times. During the day, you can carry your essentials in the side bag provided with your rental bike. The service is always included in the price. Cycling light makes all the difference.

Accommodation varies depending on the trip. It can range from hotels and guesthouses to B&Bs and private rooms. We handpick every property with care, favouring those conveniently located along the route. Breakfast is always included. For full details, check the “Comfort” section on the trip page.

Every bike tour in the Loire Valley includes: handpicked accommodation with breakfast, luggage transfer, route materials and multilingual assistance. Depending on the trip, you can add extra services to your quote, such as bike rental, meals, extra nights and transfers.

Yes, and that’s one of the best things about self-guided tours. You pick the date that suits you, within the tour’s season (usually April to October). A few tours have fixed start days for logistical reasons — this is always flagged on the tour page.

From the moment you book until you’re back home, we are here for any question or concern. On self-guided trips, it is good to be prepared for the small mechanical hiccups that come with cycling — that’s why we provide a full repair kit with everything you need to handle a flat tire on your own. For anything else, our support line is available 7 days a week, from 8 AM to 8 PM. We also have a logistical base in Orléans. Here, our colleague provides the orange bikes (about 200!) and double-checks and test drives them before each departure. He also transports the luggage, and is there to help you in case you need.

We strongly recommend it. A good policy should cover medical expenses, trip cancellation and cycling-specific incidents. Travel insurance is not included in the tour price and must be arranged independently before your trip.

It is simple: choose your trip, get your quote, and book directly online by filling in the required details and paying a deposit by credit card or bank transfer. Within 3 working days we will send you a confirmation email or an update. If you have any questions or doubts, get in touch. We are available by phone or email.
