Read more1. Arrival, boarding in Bruges and first overnight stay
Individual arrival in charming Bruges, where the boat and crew await at the pier at 4:00 p.m. If you arrive early, you can enjoy the atmosphere of the historic city centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Experience the bustling Grote Markt (main square), visit its numerous museums, or simply enjoy a coffee at an outdoor café.
2. Loop ride from Bruges to the beaches of the North Sea
For our first bike ride today, we leave Bruges, cross the town of Damme and reach the seaside resort of Blankenberge. Those who want to cool off can enjoy a swim in the North Sea, or relax in one of its many bars. Then we return to Bruges, where the boat awaits us for the night.
3. Cycling from Bruges to Ghent
While we enjoy breakfast, the boat sails towards Moerbrugge, where the bike ride begins. Today, the destination is the historic centre of Ghent, but first, the route passes through the beautiful Flemish countryside and Ostend. Ghent’s centuries-old history and proud guild traditions are visible in its brick facades, covered wool market, historic houses and ancient squares, which still host traditional markets today. As soon as the sun sets, the city comes alive with events and performances by artists. The nightlife of the bruin cafés, traditional bars with dark interiors and soft lighting, is not to be missed.
4. From Ghent to Dendermonde, through the Donkmeer Nature Reserve
Today we say goodbye to Ghent, cycle along the Scheldt River and immerse ourselves in the relaxing atmosphere of the Donkmeer Nature Reserve. The route then continues towards Dendermonde, a Flemish town named after its location at the mouth of the Dender River. The perfect way to end the day of cycling is with a drink or coffee in one of the bars on the beautiful Flemish market square, the Grote Markt.
5. Sailing from Dendermonde to St. Amands, then cycling to Antwerp
After sailing to Saint-Amands, the bike ride starts along the Brussels–Rupel Canal. Between Boom and Niel, we come across a historic brick factory dating back to the Middle Ages. The destination for the day is Antwerp, considered one of the coolest cities in the country for its music, architecture, art and nightlife. There is much to discover here, including the Town Hall, the main market square, the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe Cathedral and the medieval Steen Castle.
6. From Antwerp to Willebroek, in the heart of Flanders
Today we leave the “Shining City” behind and cycle through the lush green countryside to Lier. This town is famous for its lace and embroidery, as well as its beautiful Gothic church, Saint Gommarus. The route then follows the small Nete River to Willebroek, in the heart of Flanders, where the boat awaits.
7. From Flanders to Brussels, the Belgian capital
The route passes through charming villages and stately residences in the green region of Flanders on the way to Mechelen, a small artistic gem. The boat awaits in Vilvoorde, a few kilometres from the centre of Brussels, where the bikes are left behind. The centre is easily accessible by train, with a journey time of about 15 minutes. The Belgian capital is a vibrant, multicultural city that boasts one of the most beautiful squares in the world, the Grand Place. The area is filled with shops, bars, chocolate shops, beer gardens and the unmissable pommes frites, which, according to tradition, are fried twice. Nearby, the irreverent symbol of Brussels, Manneken-Pis, greets visitors. Meanwhile, the famous Belgian comic book hero Tintin has no time to waste: a new adventure awaits him.
8. End of the tour in Brussels
Disembarkation takes place after breakfast by 9:30 a.m. If you have an extra day, it is definitely worth staying longer in the Belgian capital to experience all its attractions and vitality. See you next time!
1. Arrival and boarding in Brussels
We arrive in Brussels individually, where the Gandalf boat and crew await us at 5:00 p.m. The boarding point is located in Vilvoorde and can be easily reached by train in about 15 minutes. If you have time before boarding—or even better, an extra day—explore the capital of Belgium. Take a stroll through the historic centre and visit the iconic Grand Place, full of shops, bars, chocolate boutiques, beer halls and the unmissable pommes frites. According to tradition, they are fried twice. Admire the Gothic Town Hall, flanked by guild houses, or visit the Royal Palace. Many agree that the highlight of the palace is the Hall of Mirrors, adorned from floor to ceiling with mirrors and 11 luminous chandeliers.
2. From Brussels to Willebroek, in the heart of Flanders
After breakfast, we set off from Vilvoorde on our first bike ride to Mechelen. This extraordinary city boasts an impressive cathedral, one of Belgium’s oldest breweries (Het Anker), and around 300 historic buildings. From there, we pass through small villages and large country estates on our way to Willebroek, where the boat awaits us for dinner.
3. From Willebroek to Antwerp, the city of diamonds
Today we start cycling in Willebroek and pass through Lier, famous for its lace and embroidery as well as its beautiful Gothic Church of Saint Gommarus. Then, back in the saddle, we reach Antwerp, the city of diamonds. It is also a hidden gem, with distinctive features such as medieval streets, Renaissance monuments and lively nightlife. Be sure to visit the Town Hall, Grote Markt Square, the Cathedral of Our Lady and the medieval Steen Castle.
4. From Antwerp to Dendermonde, following the Scheldt and Rupel rivers
We leave the sparkling city behind and cycle along the Scheldt River to Hemiksem, then continue to Rupelmonde, where the Scheldt meets the Rupel. Next we reach the village of Niel and the Walenhoek Nature Reserve. Along the way we also pass a historic brick factory located between Boom and Niel that dates back to the Middle Ages. The destination for the day is the beautiful city of Dendermonde. The perfect way to end the day’s cycling is with a short stop for a drink in the beautiful Flemish market square, the Grote Markt.
5. From Dendermonde to charming Ghent
Today, we will cross the Donkmeer Nature Reserve on our way to Ghent. This city boasts centuries of history and proud corporate traditions, including brick facades, a covered wool market, historic houses, and ancient market squares. As soon as the sun sets, however, the city comes alive with events and performances by artists. The nightlife of the bruin cafés, traditional bars with dark interiors and soft lighting, is not to be missed! All that’s left to do is raise a glass of good Trappist beer!
6. From Ghent to Bruges, a unique UNESCO World Heritage city
Today’s route follows the entire length of the Ghent–Ostend Canal across the wide Flemish plain to Bruges, a city rich in history and Gothic masterpieces. With its narrow streets and traditional brick houses, Bruges preserves a unique romantic atmosphere. As you wander between the Burg and Markt squares and along the charming canals, the sound of horses trotting on the cobblestones makes it feel as if you have stepped back in time.
7. Loop stage from Bruges to the North Sea
During the final stage of our bike ride, we cross the famous polders after cycling alongside peaceful canals lined with beautiful poplar trees. Small farmhouses and farms dot the landscape until we reach the North Sea coast, passing through the town of Damme along the way. There, we can cool off and relax on the 12-kilometer sandy beach or visit one of the many cafés and admire the dunes of Het Zwin, a unique nature reserve. Then, we return to Bruges, where our boat awaits for the night.

Tour programme variations
- Due to organisational reasons, weather conditions or provisions issued by local authorities, the itinerary may be subject to some changes before and/or during the holiday.
- Issues with high and low water, as well as logistic obstacles such as officially ordered – previously not announced – repair work on locks or bridges can modify some of the daily stretches or overnight stays and may even request a transfer by bus. These decisions are only taken by the boat’s captain.
Minimum number of participants
- This trip requires a minimum number of participants. If this number is not reached within 21 days of departure, you can change your trip or request a full refund. Until final confirmation, we advise you not to purchase flights or other connections to reach the destination.
